I'm a career red team operator and penetration tester.

Most of my time has been spent as a consultant for some major security firms, though I did my time in the help desk trenches and was a sysadmin for a few years before that.

These days, I'm pretty tired of the corporate grind and all the bullshit that comes along with it.

crime?

The title is, as you've hopefully intuited, tongue-in-cheek.

Though nothing here is or will be explicitly criminal in a current sense or an Orwellian one, some of what I plan to say here us unpopular with many of my peers, professional and personal alike.

At best, many see some of these topics as silly or inane, while others see them as downright inadmissible into regular discussion.

The point is that I cannot broach much of this with any regularity with any of my social circles without drawing immediate resistance, dismissal, or lampooning.

But to me, they are and always will be important ideas, so I'm getting them out of my system here. They are about (at least):

• Inhumane and/or moronic business practices
• Soulless, VC-funded software
• Security snake oil (like compliance)
• Hacker culture and the dying prerequisite ethos
• Technology's (mostly negative) affect on people
• Intellectual honesty and rejecting hypocrisy

This blog is primarily a cathartic venting platform for me. I won't pretend to have complete perspectives, or to be objective in every possible way.

But what a boring world it would be if we all let that stop us from expressing ourselves.
